It is with great sadness that Ampthill Rugby Club announces the passing of ex-Academy player Aaron Nahani on 22nd July 2025, following his brave battle with a high-grade Glioblastoma.
Aaron joined the club in 2020 and quickly became a cornerstone of the team that went on to win the East Midlands Cup in his first season and many more trophies after.
A talented and dedicated player, he proudly represented his club, school, county, and country, having been selected to play for Lithuania. He was a gentle giant off the pitch and a force to be reckoned with on it. Aaron was not only admired for his ability, but also loved for his humility, kindness, and ever-present smile. He was a joy to coach and a hugely popular figure throughout the club.
One of Aaron’s proudest moments came when he stepped onto the hallowed turf of Twickenham with his school side, made up largely of his Ampthill team mates, a fitting tribute to the bond they all shared.
Rugby is a family, and Ampthill Rugby is a tight-knit one. When Aaron needed help, his teammates, coaches, school and the wider community came together to raise funds for his treatment in Germany, including organising a special game between his club and school sides. Everyone will fondly remember that day, not least for the last-minute winning try, scored and converted by Aaron’s younger brother, Adam. It was a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of unity, resilience, and love that surrounded Aaron and that defines the sport he loved.
Aaron will leave a big hole in the heart of our club. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his mum Ruta, dad Maz, and brother Adam at this incredibly difficult time.
Rest in peace, Aaron. You will never be forgotten.
